VAST DRY LANDS: A BLESSING OR A CURSE

PLANTS AND ANIMALS OF THE DESERT

Contrary to popular belief, deserts do have the capability to grow its plants, and to support wildlife. No matter how difficult it may seem, agriculture is still possible in the remaining number of Western Saharafs oases, there grows several types of fruits and vegetables. The produce is just enough for the desertfs inhabitants, sometimes though, the local tribes have to divide these fruits and vegetables among themselves and their domestic animals.Speaking of which, Western Saharans, even the nomads, keep and rear their own goats, herds of sheep, camels, and even schools of fish. It is quite notable that Western Saharafs industry revolves around fishing, phosphate mining, and pastoral nomadism. It would seem impossible to do fishing and mining in the midst of a desert, but these really are one of Western Saharafs daily sources.
